Acta Materialia, Inc

Acta Materialia provides a forum for publishing full-length, original papers and commissioned overviews which advance the in-depth understanding of the relationship between the processing, the structure and the properties of inorganic materials. Papers which have a high impact potential are sought. The structure encompasses atomic and molecular arrangements, chemical and electronic structures, and microstructure. Emphasis is on either the mechanical or functional behavior of inorganic solids at all length scales down to nanostructures.

Nominations Now Accepted for the Acta Materialia Inc., Student Awards

(for papers published in 2025)

The Acta Materialia Inc., Family of Journals: Acta Materialia, Scripta Materialia, Acta Biomaterialia, and Materialia are pleased to announce the nominations for the 2025 Acta Student Awards. Up to 16 awards of $2,000 are awarded annually, with 4 awards from each of the 4 journals.

Details for the Awards:

  1. The Acta Student Award is limited to candidates whose work was reported in one of the Acta Journals and who were bona fide students when the work was performed.
  2. The candidate for the award must have made a significant contribution to the work reported.
  3. Any student author of a paper in which the Version of Record (VOR) is from January 1 to December 31, 2025, is eligible for an award. To verify a manuscript’s VOR, it is included on the respective journal home page.
    1. Review articles do not qualify.
    2. Past winners of this student award are not eligible to apply.
    3. Papers co-authored by editors of the Journal in which the paper appeared will not be considered.
  4. The application process involves two steps:
    1. The eligible student submits their paper for consideration, with a cover letter highlighting the work's importance, and a copy of the publication. Alternatively, with the student’s knowledge and permission, the student’s advisor may submit these same documents as a nomination.
    2. The decision committee will review all applications and create a shortlist of students, moving them to the second round of consideration. Once chosen, those students will be asked to furnish an up-to-date CV and two letters of support.
  5. Nominations for a student award, based on manuscripts that meet the qualifications listed in items 1-3 above, must be submitted before February 28, 2026. All application materials must be submitted through the portal link provided:
